Font Licensing

We offer à la carte Font Licensing, allowing you to simply create the license according to your specific needs:

1 — The Desktop/Print License

The most common and popular License. Use the font for any non-embedded design, like branding, identity and design-system purposes, printed artwork, books, magazines, static digital assets, apparel-design, poster, album cover and more.

2 — The Web License

The Web license is needed for any website, microsite and subdomain where the font is embedded. You will need the license to reflect the number of employees working for the domain’s company where the font is used. You will need 1 license per website.

3 —The App/Game License

The App license is needed for any application (mobile or desktop) and software where the font is embedded. You will need 1 license per app and/or software and the license coverage should reflect the anticipated total monthly active users.

4 — The Social Media License

You only need a Social Media License if you have a following that is bigger than 10 thousand people on all Socialmedia Platforms combined. If you have less than a 10 thousand combined followers, the desktop license will cover you free of extra charge.

5 — The Logo License

With a logo/wordmark license you can use the fonts to create a logo or wordmark for one brand. If you want to do it for another brand you’ll need to buy another license. You can use that logo or wordmark everywhere and unlimited without any restrictions.

6 — The Unlimited Media License

The unlimited license is a one stop, all-in-one license solution that will cover all types of imaginable media (i.e., desktop/print, branding, logo/wordmark, social media, web, app, game, e-pup, ad’s and video) for one brand / company. This is a perpetual license, that will grow with your company and needs, and you will be able to share the license with subcontractors during your work relationsship (i.e.,PR Agency’s, external developer and production partner) Companies who expect to grow quickly, or who intend to use the fonts on a wide spectrum of media, often prefer this.

Licensing Information

Buy font files on behalf of a client

You are entitled to buy font files for your clients as a payment facilitator. However, it's important to note that your clients must be the license holder and agree to our End User License Agreement. Designers, agencies, and studios should purchase a license for the digital font based on their client's company size, and charge them for it.

If you are working on behalf of clients, you do not need to purchase a license for your own use. You can use the font on behalf of your client and for yourself. However, you cannot use the font for another client.

Each client needs their own license

If a designer is using our fonts for multiple clients, each of those clients needs to have their own license. However, at Nikolas Type the Designer can always use the font for their own purposes.

Licences are not share-able with any third parties.

Your purchased Licenses can only be used within your Company and for the client and cannot be transferred any further. Each and every "Entity" ( like a third party Freelancer, Developer, Advertising, Marketing, Social Media or PR Agency… ) who will need access to the font-files, will need an own License. An exception of this is exclusively made for our Unlimited Media License Holders, please see the full conditions above.

Font Credits of Fonts in Use

Using Nikolas Type Fonts, you agree on doing your best effort to credit Nikolas Type in conformity with lntellectual Property Conventions by indicating the font and foundry name in the (website's) colophon and/or any place where general credits appear. For example: Font: „Grand Slang by Nikolas Type“

Font / Typeface Modifications require a custom license.

It is expressly prohibited to modify Nikolas Type Lettershapes, Glyphs and Material by, disassembling, decompiling, extracting, altering, merging it, or similar to create new letter-appearances, others than the clean, original state of the font itself. You may not convert, modify or rename the original font under any circumstance. You must contact us to discuss any modifications as a bespoke, custom project, which will in any case require a custom license.

Do you offer custom fonts and bespoke services?

Yes we do. We also provide design modifications for any of our existing fonts. Please get in touch with us to discuss potential collaborations.

What font file formats do you deliever after a purchase?

Our fonts will be delivered as .OTF (Open Type Format) and .WOFF (Web Open Font Format), supporting all operating systems from macOS, Windows to Linux.

What languages does your fonts support?

Our fonts support 32 Latin languages including: Afrikaans, Basque, Breton, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English Estonian, Finnish, French, Gaelic (Irish, Scots) German, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Irish, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Saami (Southern), Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish and Turkish.

Payment system

How does your payment system work?

We process payment through your credit card, your PayPal or ApplePay account. All transactions are securely processed through Shopify.

What currency do you operate in?

We operate in EUR.

Testing our Fonts

Do you offer trial fonts?

Due to the nature of our display typefaces, we do not officially offer trial font files. Please use our typetester online to see and examine if our fonts can be a fit with your project.
